The Scotland of India — coffee, mist and the Western Ghats.
Kodagu (anglicised as Coorg) is Karnataka's hill district on the Western Ghats — a landscape of coffee and cardamom estates, misty ridgelines, waterfalls and the headwaters of the river Cauvery. Madikeri is the district capital; Virajpet, Somwarpet and Kushalnagar anchor the south, north and east. The district is the heartland of the Kodava community, whose cuisine (pandi curry, akki rotti, kadambuttu) and festivals (Kailpodh, Puttari) are reason enough to visit.
